Roger headed out this morning to join a Segway tour of Berlin. A Segway is a two wheeled personal transporter that is battery powered. We had discussed my non existent sense of balance and it was agreed that he might have more fun without me. This was a brilliant decision.
He was the only member of the tour. With very quick private tuition on how to ride the Segway, he and his guide headed off into the streets of Berlin. During the first 10 minutes, the Segway was in “turtle” mode so that the guide could gauge the comfort level and skills of the participant. He discovered that he was touring with an enthusiastic youngster who quickly mastered the controls. So off came the power restrictions and the flag dropped on their fun.
They raced around the streets of Berlin – streets, sidewalks, bicycle paths. The two “boys” had a ball as they shared stories, admired the monuments but most importantly, put the Segway through its paces.
I missed the opportunity of taking their picture at Museum island since they seemed to have created their own route. I did get a chance to check in on the mobile phone and you could hear Roger’s smile coming across the airwaves. It may have been grey and drizzling by the end of the morning but for Roger, it was a fantastic day.

If you want a first hand report, send a note to Roger. He loved it!

We saw the news of the bushfires and the Australian heat. Way too early in the season. Keep cool. Love R&D
